MiBiz Fine Print – Health Care Technology –October 2, 2006
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – OtterBase, a supplemental staffing company headquartered in Grand Rapids, recently was selected to the University of Michigan (U-M) Strategic Supplier Program.
Under the status of a strategic supplier, OtterBase is approved to provide IT supplemental staffing support to all university-affiliated departments, including the main campus in Ann Arbor, the medical school and health system, the Dearborn and Flint branch campuses, and M-Care, the university health care provider.
OtterBase was one of only a handful of vendors selected for the IT division of the Strategic Supplier Program and became an approved vendor for the University of Michigan in 2000. The Strategic Supplier
Program narrows the number of previously-approved vendors from 90 down to five strategic suppliers for U-M IT contract staffing services.
In the past six years, OtterBase has provided supplemental staffing support to a number of areas, including the university hospital’s help desk and the U-M Health System Medical Center Information Technology Department (MCIT).
To date, OtterBase has placed more than 60 contractors at U-M. Of those, 15 contractors have become permanent staff members. The placements have included .Net developers, network administrators, quality analysts (QA) and performance engineers.
OtterBase co-founder of CEO Bill Bennett told MiBiz that the firm’s scientific and medical divisions have been growing very quickly.
“We expect to see them grow even more as we expand to more of a nationwide presence,” he said. “We also expect demand to grow locally here in the Grand Rapids area because of what is happening along the Medical Mile.”
OtterBase provides supplemental staffing support to a variety of industries, including aerospace and defense, automotive, education, government, healthcare, energy and utilities, finance and banking, furniture, human resources, information technology, insurance, legal services, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and biomedical, food services and processing, retail and marketing and advertising.
